We've tried to make the interface as simple and easy to use as possible, but a few hints may be helpful. In addition to these notes, on-line help is available from the system menu, which you can access by clicking the triangle at the right edge of your monitor.
When you enter a new scene, listen to the dialog (if any) and then wait a few seconds. The scene may change automatically if action or conversation is taking place. If the scene doesn't change, feel free to explore.
A few scenes are panoramas that extend beyond the edges of the monitor. Look for arrows on the left or right edge of the picture. Click on an arrow to shift the "camera angle".
You can move Victor and Yondo from place to place by clicking on streets and doorways. Wait a few seconds for the next scene to be loaded from the disk. Please be patient: it takes longer to get data from a CD-ROM than from a magnetic drive.
Clicking on other things on the screen may cause events to happen or bring up a closer view. To exit a close-up view, click the U-turn arrow in the upper left corner of the view screen.
When the cursor moves over an item that can be picked up and put in the backpack, the text display at the top of the screen will identify it. Just click on the item to digitize and store it.
At the souvenir stand things work a little differently. Click on an item you're interested in, and the man will tell you what it costs. If you have denarii in the backpack, "use" them. The correct amount will be deducted from your cash and the item you have purchased will be placed in the backpack.
It's possible to complete the mission without experiencing all the available scenes and events. Be sure to go back and relive the adventure by exploring different pathways. You might even want to experiment with making the wrong choices, just to see what happens.
Technical Considerations:
The Hypnotic Harp will not work unless the QuickTime extension is present in the System Folder. Sound Manager version 3.0 and Sound Control Panel 8.0.1 have been included to enhance the audio and QuickTime playback performance. Drag the three extensions from the CD into your System Folder. The finder will then ask for confirmation on file placement. Click 'OK'. For optimum performance, turn off all unnecessary inits and extensions.
We hope you get many hours of fun from this installment in the continuing adventures of Victor Vector & Yondo!
